Presidential hopeful & Chicago White Sox fan Barack Obama did what any White Sox fan would do if they were on tv: take a shot at Cubs fans.
While doing an interview with ESPN, Obama bashed Cubs fans with the same old stereotype:
Obama joked about the stereotype of Cubs fans, who probably are tired of being described as partying people-watchers instead of serious baseball fans.
“You go to Wrigley Field, you have a beer, beautiful people up there,” Obama said, according to transcripts released by ESPN. “People aren’t watching the game. It’s not serious. White Sox, that’s baseball.”
Was this a dumb move or a brilliant move? Think about it….
Obama is going to win Illinois in the election pretty easily anyways, so making fun of the much bigger fanbase in the state isn’t really a big deal. (You may also think that there aren’t people out there stupid enough to base their selection on arbitrary things such as being a fan of a particular sports team. You would be wrong. Some people ARE that dumb.)
And which fanbase is one of the most hated & the most ridiculed fanbases in all of sports? The Chicago Cubs. The majority of the country hates Cubs fans. The Cubs are the best team in baseball right now, which makes them even more hate-able.
It just makes perfect sense to rip on the Cubs if you’re Obama.
Your move, John McCain. Time to make fun of New England Patriots fans.

If Ron Santo was pro-Obama, this may be the news that actually ends up killing the man.

Maybe he can take over for Kenny Williams if he loses the election. What a tiresome criticism. Do people realize that for years and years the Tribune refused to spend money, because they didn’t have to, and in the last few years the fans have started to agitate for a winning team, which has contributed to the spending spree of the last couple offseasons? You’re going to tell me Cubs fans don’t care? Stick to politics, guy.

There’s a reason why the Cubs have sold out season after season. They have a fan base that rivals the Yankees and Red Sox–maybe more so because of their recent success. They will eclipse the 3 million attendance mark for yet another season. They outnumber fans even from CONTENDING teams. And yet here’s Obama, claiming a typical Cubs fan is one to go for the sights, the beer, certainly not for baseball.
Well how often do you see Cubs fans cheer for the little things–the base on balls that Cubs players draw consistently (#1 in the league), a pitcher’s ability to bunt, heads up baserunning, flawless defense.
I’ve never seen more attentive fans in my life this year at Wrigley–and I’ve been to the Cell twice, where half the crowd watches from the hot dog stand. Get a clue Barack, and don’t f*** up your election. Cubs fans are smart at baseball, but I’m not sure the same could be said about politics. Nonetheless, Obama lost votes when he should have kept quiet.

Commenter #3 sounds like the aforementioned stupid cubs fan.

why Barack,
So what part of these ’smart’ fans litters the field with trash after a call against their team?
These ’smart’ fans show up for pitchers’ bunts when the team is 19-60?
Northsiders just like their big, open-air bar, and Obama calls them out for it.
Let’s see McCain denounce the horrible Bidwell ownership that has poisoned that franchise for decades.

The most loyal fans in baseball are not serious fans? Give me a break. A nice day for Sox fans…a very bad day for Obama. One has to question his judgment after such a ridiculously stupid statement.

First of all, if you think cubs fans are the most hated fans in baseball you are a sox fan no doubt. And since the Cubs have the third most fans in all of baseball, this was not a smart move considering the amount of cubs fans all around the country.

Wow that is a crazy picture

Which is more exciting? Senator Obama being the first African-American delegate to be elect by the DNC or the Chicago Cubs on the path to the World Series?
